After Nick meets Gasby, he says he is "pleasantly suprised". He says this because he was truly suprised that Gatsby was actually a nice, pleasant person to be around. He likes to be around Gatsby and over time grows more fond of him. He believes Gatsby is a man of mystery because he doesn't like to go to his own parties, he is bothing like the people say he is like, and many other reasons as well.

After meeting Gatsby Nick's opinion of him changes greatly. From what he has been told Gatsby was a person that was a little off or seemed like he would be mean. But he is "pleasantly surprised to find that Gatsby is almost the opposite of the stories he has been told, he is actually a calm, kind, and generous person. He avoids his own parties since he is more independent then most people.

After Nick meets Gatsby he is shocked by how nice and how average he is. He is also confused because Gatsby has a very low key personality which makes him come off as a mysterious character.
Nick is unsure what he thinks of Gatsby when he first meets him. But after becoming aquanted he begins to learn more about Gatsby and begins to like him.
