Gatsby offers Nick work because he probably feels a little bad for him. Gatsby sees that Nick does not nearly have as much wealth as him. I think that he wants to help Nick in a way. During the time that the story is taking place, the Great Depression is taking place in the United States. It seems that Nick is struggling a little and Gatsby sees that and feels for him. He is just trying to be a good neigbor.

Gatsby tries to offer Nick work on his "side job" because he knows Nick does not make much money. Gatsby makes a lot of money on his work so he offers Nick some work.

Gatsby offers Nick work because he may feel as though he needs it. Gatsby knows Nick is not a wealthy man, so he is trying to help him out. Gatsby sees Nick struggling and wants to help. As a neighbor and as a friend.

Gatsby offers Nick work because he knows that bond selling is not the most secure or lucrative job. Also Gatsby does not seem to have many good friends and him offering Nick a job could be an attempt to make a new friend who is not particularly powerful or wealthy.

During this time, the Great Depression was going on and money was short. It must have been an enormous blow to a man's self esteem if he could not support himself. Gatsby notices that Nick is having a hard time and tries to do what he thinks is right and offers him work. I think Nick was felt very low after.
