The Great Gatsby Chapter 6 Question 1

How truthful was Gatsby when he relayed the story of his life to Nick? Why does Fitzgerald tell the story of Jay Gatz now?

We learn how the story Gatsby told Nick is very untruthful. We learned that Gatsby made up most of his story. The truth about him was that he was born on a farm in North Dakota and even worked as a janitor at one point. I think the author tells us the truth because Gatsby did not. Also by giving us the truth, we learn more about Gatsby and we are able to get a different feeling about his character.

Gatsby's story to Nick is very untruthfull, i don't think he told Nick any true facts. Nick Grew up on a Farm by the name of James Gatz, and dropped out of college two weeks in. His family was not extremely wealthy. He worked fishing and digging for clams. He met a fisherman, Cody, who he traveled with. When Cody died Gatsby was left with $25,000 and the desire to become wealthy. I believe Fitgerald included this because Gatsby would never tell the truth of his life and Fitsgerald wanted us to know who Gatsby really was.

Gatsby is lying to Nick. Gatsby grew up on a farm and did not always live in luxary.I agree with Derek that the author tells the truth because Gatsby does not. This tells us more about Gatsby character.

Gatsby was not truthful with Nick at al. This is the opposite of what i thought, i had thought most of what he said was true but i was wrong. He actually was from a farm family and grew up on a farm. he also was a janitor in his past but moved on and is now living in luxury and has all his fame.

Gatsby's story of his life was almost completely false. His story was made up o make him look better than actually was. Fitzgerald tells the story of Jay Gatz to show who Gatby really is and how he really came to be who he is. It reveals to us whole different perspective on this man we assumed was this highly sophisticated rich kid.

Gatsby is lying to Nick, the author reveals that he was not always wealthy and he used to live on a farm and was a janitor when he was younger. They author included this so we would know that Gatsby is lying and know the truth.

The story Gatsby told Nick was not the truth. We have come to find out the story was mostly made up. He was really born on a farm in North Dakota. He worked as a janitor. Now knowing the truth, we learned that Gatsby may be lying about other things too.
