The Great Gatsby Test Question 10

If we were to create a soundtrack for the book The Great Gatsby in this class, what song would you suggest for the soundtrack and why?  Do a lyric or song search to find an appropriate song that would compliment our soundtrack.  You may search by one of the themes of the book or by a name.  Copy and paste your lyrics, list the performer and the copyright information before the lyrics, like I did below.  Please make sure you have used an appropriate and clean version of the song you would like to include.  Underneath your lyrics, give a brief explanation of why you would propose this song.  No repeats, please.

Performer: Duke Ellington
Album: Duke Ellington 1938
Date: 1938

Solitude
In my solitude you haunt me
With reveries of days gone by
In my solitude you taunt me
With memories that never die
I sit in my chair
Filled with despair
Nobody could be so sad
With gloom ev'rywhere
I sit and I stare
I know that I'll soon go mad
In my solitude
I'm praying
Dear Lord above
Send back my love

I would propose Solitude by Duke Ellington because it reminds me of Jay Gatsby.  He spent many hours in solitude, even at his own parties, pining away for Daisy.  We find out that he is waiting for Daisy to attend one of his parties.  I also thought this song was perfect because it was written by Duke Ellington, one of the most prominent Jazz Age musicians.  The style of the music would fit right in with the music in the book.

Song: Ka-Ching
Singer: Shania Twain
Album: Up!
Year: 2002

We live in a greedy little world--
that teaches every little boy and girl
To earn as much as they can possibly--
then turn around and
Spend it foolishly
We've created us a credit card mess
We spend the money that we don't possess
Our religion is to go and blow it all
So it's shoppin' every Sunday at the mall

All we ever want is more
A lot more than we had before
So take me to the nearest store

[Chorus:]
Can you hear it ring
It makes you wanna sing
It's such a beautiful thing--Ka-ching!
Lots of diamond rings
The happiness it brings
You'll live like a king
With lots of money and things

When you're broke go and get a loan
Take out another mortgage on your home
Consolidate so you can afford
To go and spend some more when
you get bored

All we ever want is more
A lot more than we had before
So take me to the nearest store

[Repeat Chorus]

Let's swing
Dig deeper in your pocket
Oh, yeah, ha
Come on I know you've got it
Dig deeper in your wallet
Oh

All we ever want is more
A lot more than we had before
So take me to the nearest store

[Repeat Chorus]

Can you hear it ring
It makes you wanna sing
You'll live like a king
With lots of money and things
Ka-ching!

I know that the lyrics to this song pertain more to our culture now, but it also has to do with themes of wealth and greed in the Great Gatsby. What the song is saying is that our society really cares about money. We keep wanting more and that being wealthy brings happiness. This was portrayed in the Great Gatsby, for this is what the wealthy people believed as well. Characters like Tom and Daisy believed that the wealthier they were, the happier they would be. The Buchanan’s had it all, but even after having it all, they were just miserable. miserable.

Song: Superhuman
Artist: Chris Brown (ft. Keri Hilson)
Album: Exclusive (Forever Edition-Jive)
Year: 2008

Weak
I have been crying and crying for weeks
How'd I survive when I can barely speak
Barely eat, On my knees

But that's the moment you came to me
You don't know what your love has done to me
Think I'm invincible
I see though the me I used to be

You changed my whole life
Don't know what your doing to me with your love
I'm feeling all super human, you did this to me
A super human heart beats in me
Nothing can stop me here with you
Super human (I feel so superhuman X2)
Super human

Strong
Since I've been flying and writing the wrongs
Feels almost like I've had it all along
I can see tomorrow

Well every problem is gone because
I flew everywhere with love inside of me
It's unbelievable to see how love can set me free

You changed my whole life (life)
Don't know what your doing to me with your love (uh-huh)
I'm feeling all super human, you did this to me
A super human heart beats in me
Nothing can stop me here with you
Super human (I feel so superhuman X2)
Super human

It's not a bird, not a plane
It's my heart and it's going, gone away
My only weakness is you
Only reason is you
Every minute with you
I can feel like I can do anything
I'm Going going, gone away love

You changed my whole life (oh uh)
Don't know what your doing to me with your love (to me with your love)
I'm feeling all super human, you did this to me, yeah
A super human heart beats in me
Nothing can stop me here with you
Super human

Super human

This song, I believe relates to The Great Batsby because of many different reasons. One part of this book that espically makes me think of Gatsby and Daisy's relationship. They were both secret lovers, and they could not stand to be away from eachother. This song talks about two people who cannot live without eachother, and this is why it reminds me of Gatsby and Daisy so much.

Song: Ain’t Nobody
Artist: Chaka Khan
Album: ?
Captured effortlessly
Thats the way it was
Happened so naturally
I did not know it was love
The next thing I felt was
You holding me close
What was I gonna do?
I let myself go
And now were flyin through the star
I hope this night will last forever
Ive been waitin for you
Its been so long
I knew just what I would do
When I heard your song
Filled my heart with your bliss
Gave me freedom
You knew I could not resist
I needed someone
And now were flyin through the stars
I hope this night will last forever
Oh oh oh oh
Chorus:
Aint nobody
Loves me better
Makes me happy
Makes me feel this way
Aint nobody
Loves me better than you

I wait for night time to come
And bring you to me
Cant believe Im the one
I was so lonely
I feel like no one could feel
I must be dreamin
I want this dream to be real
I need this feelin
I make my wish upon a star
And hope this night will last forever
Chorus
And first you put your arms around me
Then you put your charms around me
I cant resist this sweet surrender
Oh my nights are warm and tender
We stare into each others eyes
And what we see is no surprise
Got a feeling most with treasure
And a love so deep we cannot measure

I choose this song because iy can refer to every character in this book. Daisy is in love with Gatsby and Gatsby is in love with her. Tom is in love with Myrtle and Myrtle loves Tom. Nick was beginning to really like Jordan and she was starting to like him as well. But, i would probably have to propose this song to Daisy from Gatsby.

Song: Disconnected
Artist: Trapt
Album: Someone In Control
Year: 2008

You never listen to me,
You cannot look me in the eyes.
I have struggled to see
Why its so easy to push me aside....

I no longer believe,
That you were ever on my side.
How could you know what I need,
When I'm the last thing on your mind...

Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you

[chorus]
So disconnected, going through the motions again
So disconnected, everything goes over your head
So disconnected, you got me hangin by a thread
So disconnected, when will this cycle end?

You dont really know me,
I dont think you ever even tried
We're on the same routine
Where you say you never have the time

What do you want me to be?
Do you want me in your life?
I feel so incomplete
You left me to fall behind

Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you

[chorus]
So disconnected, going through the motions again
So disconnected, everything goes over your head
So disconnected, you got me hangin by a thread
So disconnected, when will this cycle end?

Its too hard to just move on
Its easier said then done
Its too hard to just move on
Its easier said then done

Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you
Too out of touch, out of touch to touch you

[chorus]
So disconnected, going through the motions again
So disconnected, everything goes over your head
So disconnected, you got me hangin by a thread
So disconnected, when will this cycle end?

So disconnected, going through the motions again
So disconnected
When will this cycle end

So disconnected
So disconnected
When will this cycle end?

This song relates to the Great Gatsby in a very specific way. This song is a good song for Daisy's feelings for Tom before she meets Gatsby.

If I should stay,
I would only be in your way.
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you ev'ry step of the way.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You, my darling you. Hmm.

Bittersweet memories
that is all I'm taking with me.
So, goodbye. Please, don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.

(Instrumental solo)

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you've dreamed of.
And I wish to you, joy and happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I will always love you.
I, I will always love you.

You, darling, I love you.
Ooh, I'll always, I'll always love you.

I think this song is a great song for the theme of the book, because no matter what Gatsby would always love Daisy. Even when she went off and married Tom and didnt wait for him he still loved her. Gatsby never stopped loving her even when he thought he was never going to see her again she was still the only girl he ever loved and ever would love.

Song: Hit the Road Jack
Artist: Ray Charles

Hit the Road Jack and don'tcha come back
No more no more no more no more,
Hit the Road Jack and don'tcha come back
No more
What'd you say

Old woman old woman, oh you treat me so mean,
You're the meanest old woman that I ever have seen,
Well I guess if you say so
I'll have to pack my things and go (that's right)

Now Baby, listen Baby, don't you treat me this-a way
'Cause I'll be back on my feet some day,
Don't care if you do, cause it's understood,
You got no money, and you just ain't no good
Well I guess if you say so
I'll have to pack my things and go (that's right)

Well ...
Uh, whud jou say?
I didn't understand you.
You can't mean that ...
Aw now Baby, Please.
What you tryin to do to me!?

This song is relevant to The Great Gatsby for a few reasons. One reason is because this is the jazz age and Ray Charles is one of the greates jazz artists of that generation. Also, this song is about the man cheating on his wife which is exactly what Tom did to Daisy. This could be the best song for this book in my opinion.

Song: Five Foot Two, Eyes of Blue
Singer: Dean Martin
Album: ?

Five foot two, eyes of blue
But oh what those five foot could do
Has anyone seen my gal

Turned up nose and turned down hose
Never had another beau
Has anyone seen my gal

Now if you run into five foot two covered with fur
Diamond ring and all those things
Bet your life it isn't hers
Could she love could she woo
Could she love could she coo
Has anyone seen my gal

Five foot two, eyes of blue but oh what those five foot could do
Has anyone seen my gal

Now if you run into five foot two covered with fur
Diamond ring and all those things
Bet your life that it wasn't her

Could she loving could she coo
Could she could she woo
Has anyone seen my gal

I think this is a good song to describe Gatsby because he loved Daisy, and he expected her to wait for him when he came back from the war. Even thought she has all the money she every wanted, he knew that she still loved him and thoe things deep down did not matter to her.

Song: In the End
Artist: Linkin Park
Album: Hybrid Theory
Year:2000

(It starts with)
One thing / I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme
To explain in due time
All I know
time is a valuable thing
Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings
Watch it count down to the end of the day
The clock ticks life away
It’s so unreal
Didn’t look out below
Watch the time go right out the window
Trying to hold on / but didn’t even know
Wasted it all just to
Watch you go
I kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart
What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time when I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn't even matter
One thing / I don’t know why
It doesn’t even matter how hard you try
Keep that in mind / I designed this rhyme
To remind myself how
I tried so hard
In spite of the way you were mocking me
Acting like I was part of your property
Remembering all the times you fought with me
I’m surprised it got so (far)
Things aren’t the way they were before
You wouldn’t even recognize me anymore
Not that you knew me back then
But it all comes back to me
In the end
You kept everything inside and even though I tried / it all fell apart
What it meant to me / will eventually / be a memory / of a time when I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I've put my trust in you
Pushed as far as I can go
For all this
There’s only one thing you should know
I tried so hard
And got so far
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter
I had to fall
To lose it all
But in the end
It doesn’t even matter

I feel like the lyrics in this song describe gastby's life towrds the end. He put everything that he had into a relationship with Daisy just to get nothing out of it. Also he also went from being on top to being on bottom within a few days.

Song: Cold
Artist: Crossfade
Album: not sure

Looking back at me I see
That I never really got it right
I never stopped to think of you
I'm always wrapped up in
Things I cannot win
You are the antidote that gets me by
Something strong
Like a drug that gets me high

[Chorus x2:]
What I really meant to say
Is I'm sorry for the way I am
I never meant to be so cold

To you I'm sorry about all the lies
Maybe in a different light
You could see me stand on my own again
Cause now i can see
You were the antidote that got me by
Something strong like a drug that got me high

[Chorus x2]

I never meant to be so cold

I never really wanted you to see
The screwed up side of me that I keep
Locked inside of me so deep
It always seems to get to me
I never really wanted you to go
So many things you should have known
I guess for me theres just no hope
I never meant to be so cold

[Chorus x2]

I feel this song portrays the daisy is feeling now towards gatsby. it can relate to when gatsby left and she never really thought about him, and married a rich man. Now that Gatsby is rich she realizes that she should have waited because she really loved him. This song is able to show that.

Song: As
Artist: Stevie Wonder
Album: Songs in the Key of Life
Year: 1976

As around the sun the earth knows she's revolving
And the rosebuds know to bloom in early May
Just as hate knows love's the cure
You can rest your mind assure
That I'll be loving you always
As now can't reveal the mystery of tomorrow
But in passing will grow older every day
Just as all is born is new
Do know what I say is true
That I'll be loving you always

Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky---ALWAYS
Until the ocean covers every mountain high---ALWAYS
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea---ALWAYS
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream

Did you know that true love asks for nothing
Her acceptance is the way we pay
Did you know that life has given love a guarantee
To last through forever and another day
Just as time knew to move on since the beginning
And the seasons know exactly when to change
Just as kindness knows no shame
Know through all your joy and pain
That I'll be loving you always
As today I know I'm living but tomorrow
Could make me the past but that I mustn't fear
For I'll know deep in my mind
The love of me I've left behind Cause I'll be loving you always

Until the day is night and night becomes the day---ALWAYS
Until the trees and seas just up and fly away---ALWAYS
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4---ALWAYS
Until the day that is the day that are no more
Did you know that you're loved by somebody?
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left---ALWAYS
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself
I'll be loving you forever
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through---ALWAYS
Until the day that you are me and I am you---AL~~~~~~WA~~
~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~
Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky~~~~~AA~~~~
~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~YS~~ALWAYS

We all know sometimes lifes hates and troubles
Can make you wish you were born in another time and space
But you can bet you life times that and twice its double
That God knew exactly where he wanted you to be placed
so make sure when you say you're in it but not of it
You're not helping to make this earth a place sometimes called Hell
Change your words into truths and then change that truth into love
And maybe our children's grandchildren
And their great-great grandchildren will tell
I'll be loving you

Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky--Loving you
Until the ocean covers every mountain high--Loving you
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea--Loving you
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream--Be loving you
Until the day is night and night becomes the day--Loving you
Until the trees and seas up, up and fly away--Loving you
Until the day that 8x8x8x8 is 4--Loving you
Until the day that is the day that are no more--Loving you
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left--Be loving you
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself--Loving you
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through--Loving you
Until the day that you are me and I am you--
Now ain't that loving you
Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky
Ain't that loving you
Until the ocean covers every mountain high
And I've got to say always
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea~~AL~~~WA~~~AYS
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream-Um AL~~WA~~AYS
Until the day is night and night becomes the day-AL~~~~WA~~AYS
Until the trees and seas just up and fly away-AL~~WA~~~AA~~~~~
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA~~~~~~~AA
Until the day that is the day that are no more-AA~~~~AA~~AA~~~AYS
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left-AL~~~WA~~~A~~~AA
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself-~~AA~~~AA~~~AA~~~AYS
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through-AL~~~WAYS
Until the day that you are me and I am you
Until the rainbow burns the stars out in the sky
Until the ocean covers every mountain high
Until the dolphin flies and parrots live at sea
Until we dream of life and life becomes a dream
Until the day is night and night becomes the day
Until the trees and seas just up and fly away
Until the day that 8x8x8 is 4
Until the day that is the day that are no more
Until the day the earth starts turning right to left
Until the earth just for the sun denies itself
Until dear Mother Nature says her work is through
Until the day that you are me and I am you

This song, As, by Stevie wonder is perfect for a Great Gatsby because it very accurately describes Gatsby's never ending passion for Daisy. The lengths Gatsby went to meet Daisy and the way he obsessed about her proves that he would lover her forever. The song talks of countless extremes to which the love will last. Gatsby must also have believed he was going "to be loving" Daisy for as long as he could. Gatsby knew there were problems but he also knew in himself that he was meant to be with Daisy. The passion and love described in this song is the same emotion that engrosses Gatsby in the Great Gatsby.

Song: Look at me now
Artist: Jessy
Album: ?
Year: 2002

I've been caged by you for such a long long time,
You had your own particular way to fill my mind,
With low esteem,
Regarding myself,
So i kept me hidden,
Within my shell,
And it took so long,
For me to see,
How demolishing,
You were to me.

Look at me now i'm stronger than before,
Cause i found the strength within myself,
To close the door,
And i closed the door for you to ever come
Inside again,
I've tried so hard to keep me sheltered from
Your kind of men.

I've been blind and foolish but i was just a
Girl,
You seduced me with your lies and promissed me
The world,
Now i've had it with you,
And your twisted games,
And no longer will you,
Make me feel so ashamed,
I have found the power,
To open the cage,
I left you behind me,
I turned the page.

Look at me now i'm stronger than before,
'cause i found the strength within myself,
To close the door,
And i closed the door for you to ever come
Inside again,
I've tried so hard to keep me sheltered from
Your kind of men .

Some time ago i walked away,
You tought i'd never be the same,
I recovered on my own,
Without you now i'll cary on

I chose this song because it reminds me of Daisy and how she must have felt when she found out that Tom was cheating on her. But then she put it behind her and moved on to Gatsby and is stronger than she was before and Tom becomes very jealous when he learns this.

Song - Black
Performer - Pearl Jam
Album - Ten
Date - 1991

Hey... oooh...
Sheets of empty canvas, untouched sheets of clay
Were laid spread out before me as her body once did.
All five horizons revolved around her soul
As the earth to the sun
Now the air I tasted and breathed has taken a turn

Ooh, and all I taught her was everything
Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore
And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds
Of what was everything.
Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

I take a walk outside
I'm surrounded by some kids at play
I can feel their laughter, so why do I sear?
Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head
I'm spinning, oh, I'm spinning
How quick the sun can drop away

And now my bitter hands cradle broken glass
Of what was everything?
All the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything...

All the love gone bad turned my world to black
Tattooed all I see, all that I am, all I'll be... yeah...
Uh huh... uh huh... ooh...

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life,
I know you'll be a sun in somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, can't it be mine

This song pertains to the Great Gatsby because it is about a man who gets his heart broken by someone and after his whole world turns to black making him depressed. This song would be played when Gatsby finds out that Daisy married Tom or even after Gatsby dies.

Song:Change
Singer:Taylor Swift

It's just a sad picture
The final blow hits you
Somebody else gets
What you wanted
You know
It's all the same
Another time and place
Repeating history
Just another episode

But I believe
In whatever you do
And I'll do anything
To see it through

Chorus:
Because these things
Will change
We can see it now
These walls
That they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It's a revolution
It's how we'll become
Who we're
Supposed to be
We'll sing hallelujah
We'll sing hallelujah
Oh

So you've been
Out numbered
When you've been
Out cornered
It's time to find
What you're
Fighting for

You're getting
Stronger now
From things
They never found
They might be better
But we're faster
And never scared

We've got the ways
That we can beat this
There's something
In your eyes
Says we can beat this

Chorus:
Because these things
Will change
We can see it now
These walls
That they put up
To hold us back
Will fall down
It's a revolution
It's how we'll become
Who we're
Supposed to be
We'll sing hallelujah
We'll sing hallelujah
Oh

Tonight we're
Standing on our feet
To fight
For what we worked
For all these years
The battle of long
It's the fight
Of our lives
We'll stand up
Champions tongiht
And it's the night
We changed
We can see it now
When the walls
That they put up
To hold us
Back fell down
'Cause it's a revolution
Throw your hands up
'Cause we never give in
We'll sing hallelujah
We'll sing hallelujah
Hallelujah

I picked this song because it is a song that would describe the hopes and desires coming from Gatsby to Daisy. He believes in a fighting chance and wants Daisy but Tom has her.

Song: I Was Born to be Blue
Singer: Ella Fitzgerald

Some folks were meant to live in clover,
But they are such a chosen few.
And clover being green is something I've never seen
'Cause I was born to be blue.

When there's a yellow moon above me,
They say there's moonbeams I should view
But moonbeams being gold are something I can't behold
'Cause I was born to be blue.

When I met you the world was bright and sunny
When you left the curtain fell
I'd like to laugh but nothing strikes me funny
Now my world's a faded pastel

Well, I guess I'm luckier than some folks,
I've known the thrill of loving you.
And that alone is more than I was created for
'Cause I was born to be blue.

This song reminds me of Gatsby because he seems blue. I chose an Ella Fitzgerald song because she reminds me of the jazz age. I think Gatsby is blue because all he wants is Daisy, and he can not have her. He was born to be blue.

Song: Hearts Burst Into Fire
Band: Bullet for my Valentine
album: Scream Aim Fire
year: 2008

I'm coming home!
I've been gone for far too long!
Do you remember me at all?
I'm leavingI'm dreaming
Too much time without you spent!

[Pre-chorus:]
It hurts!
Wounds so sore!
Now I'm torn
Now I'm torn

[Chorus:]
I've been far away
When I see your face
My hearts burst into fire!
Hearts burst into fire!

You're not alone
I know I'm far from home!
Do you remember me at all?

I'm leaving
Do you wait for me again?
I'm screaming
No more days that I just spent

[Pre-chorus]
[Chorus]

[Interlude:]
My bed's so cold, so lonely
No arms, just sheets to hold me

Has this world stop turning?
Are we forever to be apart?
(Forever to be apart)

[Pre-chorus]
[Chorus]

I'm coming home
I've been gone for too long!
(I'm coming home)
Do you remember me at all?

Do you remember me at all?
I'm leaving
I'm screaming
I'm dreaming

I think this would be a good song because the lyrics talk about things that relate to Gatsby. On the one hand it is how he is lonely with out Daisy and he has finally come back to find her after all this time. Also about how painful it is to be without here and when he sees her he is happy again.

Song: Take It Easy
Artist: The Eagles
Album: Take It Easy Single
Date: 1972

Well, Im running down the road
Tryin to loosen my load
Ive got seven women on
My mind,
Four that wanna own me,
Two that wanna stone me,
One says shes a friend of mine
Take it easy, take it easy
Dont let the sound of your own wheels
Drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Dont even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy
Well, Im a standing on a corner
In winslow, arizona
And such a fine sight to see
Its a girl, my lord, in a flatbed
Ford slowin down to take a look at me
Come on, baby, dont say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
Gonna save me
We may lose and we may win though
We will never be here again
So open up, Im climbin in,
So take it easy
Well Im running down the road trying to loosen
My load, got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin for a lover who wont blow my
Cover, shes so hard to find
Take it easy, take it easy
Dont let the sound of your own
Wheels make you crazy
Come on baby, dont say maybe
I gotta know if your sweet love is
Gonna save me, oh oh oh
Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

This song relates great to the character Tom in the Great Gatsby. The song is about a man who has women in different parts of the country. Tom is cheating on Daisy because he has a girl in New York. He is cheating on Daisy. The song shows that it can be bad to have too many women at one time because it can mess your life up.

Song- Heartless
Singer- Kanye West
Album- 808's and heartbreak
year-2008

In the night, I hear them talk the coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, he lost his soul
To a woman so heartless [echoes 3X]
How could you be so heartless [echoes 3X]
Oh, how could you be so heartless?

[Verse 1]
How could you be so cold as the winter wind when it breeze yo
Just remember that you talking to me yo
You need to watch the way you talking to me yo
I mean after all the things that we been through
I mean after all the things we got into
Ayo, I know there are some things that you ain't told me
Ayo, I did some things but that's the old me
And now you wanna get me back and you gonna show me
So you walk around like you don't know me
You got a new friend, well I got homies
But in the end it's still so lonely

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
How could you be so Dr. Evil?
You bringing out a side of me that I don't know
I decided we weren't gonna speak so
Why we up 3 A.M. on the phone?
Why though she be so mad at me for?
Homie I don't know she's hot and cold
I won't stop wont mess my groove up
Cause I already know how this thing go
You run and tell your friends that you're leaving me
They say that they don't see what you see in me
You wait a couple months then you gonna see
You'll never find nobody better than me

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Talking talking talking talk
Baby lets just knock it off
They don't know what we been through
They don't know about me and you
So why I got something new to see?
And you just gonna be keep hating me
And we just gonna be enemies
I know you can't believe
I could just leave it wrong
And you can't make it right
I'm gonna take off tonight (Into the night)

This song reflects the book because in two different situations women steal men's souls. When Gatsby was with Daisy before the war, it seems that he was alive and full of energy. After Gatsby had to leave for the war, it seems like his lively energy was left being with Daisy. His soul was taken by a woman. Also Mr. Wilson seemed like he really appreciated Myrtyle and worked really hard to please her. He lost his soul to a heartless woman.

Song: The Girl's A Straight Up Hustler
Artist: All Time Low lyrics
Album: Put Up Or Shut Up
Year: 2006

Lipstick has a way of leaving more than just a mark on my sheets,
coloring my senses cherry red; at least for this week...
Kisses under starry night skies, talked about in song,
we play along, so bitter sweet by our design.
I'm sick and tired of writing songs about you,
This is it, this is the end...

Take off your makeup and put down the camera,
choke on the drama that makes me want to,
tear up the pictures, the pages you've saved,
creating a life of trends and make believe...

I've got no place in my heart for a criminal like you to dwell,
in this endeavor, make this last forever...
I'm just delirious,
You can't be serious,
You're so infamous for leaving me a mess...

Take off your makeup, put down the camera,
choke on the drama that makes me want to,
tear up the pictures and pages you've saved,
creating a life of trends and make believe...

She gets what she wants and she breaks what she gets,
get out while you can or she'll tear you to pieces /
"Are you having a good time sweetheart?"

Take off your makeup, put down the camera,
choke on the drama that makes me want to,
tear up the pictures and pages you've saved,
creating a life of trends and make believe...

Carry on home,
I'll be waiting miles and miles away,
leaving you to be forever seventeen,
cleaning up the messes that you've made.

Lights go down
It's dark
The jungle is your head
Can't rule your heart
I'm feeling so much stronger
Than I thought
Your eyes are wide
And though your soul
it can't be bought
your mind can wander

Hello, Hello
Hola! [Spanish for Hello]
I'm at a place called vertigo (¿Dónde está?) [Where is it?]
It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something I can feel
Feel

The night is full of holes
Those bullets rip the sky
Of ink with gold
They twinkle as the boys play rock and roll
They know that they can't dance
At least they know

I can sell the beat
I'm askin' for the cheque
Girl with crimson nails
Has Jesus 'round the neck
Swinging to the music
Swinging to the music
Woooao

Hello, Hello
Hola!
I'm at a place called Vertigo (¿Dónde está?) [Where is it?]
It's everything I wish I didn't know
But you give me something I can feel
Feel

Check mated
Oh yeah
Hours of fun...

All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours
All of this, all of this can be yours
Just give me what I want and no-one gets hurt

Hello, Hello
Hola!
I'm at a place called Vertigo
Lights go down and all I know
Is that you give me something I can feel
You're teaching me ...aaahhh
Your love is teaching me how
How to kneel
Kneel

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!

I chose this song because i believe it symbolizes Gatsby';s state of mind. Its a good song to describe this book because its about a floood of emotion and it says to not let the emotions control you, and i think thats similar to the book.
