The narrator, Nick, came from the Mid West. He moved to the East because he had acquired a new less appealing view of his old home. He was also interested in the east for the reason of entering the bond business. It might not have been the first choice of his family but he was happy with his decision.

The narrator tells of how he moved from the west to the east for not completely explained reasons but has thouroughly agreed with Mr. Buchnan that they would be fools to return to the west.

The narrator Nick, came from a Middle Eastern city. He descided to move to the east and learn the bond business. Everyone he knew was in the bond business, so he thought it would support one more single man. His Aunts and Uncles also encouraged him to move east so they could choose a prep school for him.

Despite the many generations to inherit the family's wholesale hardware business in a middle western city before him, Nick decided not to. After graduating from New Haven, he attended a Eastern prep school with the funding of his aunts and uncles.
